A stylish Engagment Party

On the day, Gavan took me to our favourite lookout picnic spot, overlooking Brighton Beach. We shared a platter of oysters and washed it down with a glass of pino gris. As the sun was setting, knowing my love of Polaroid photos and selfies Gavan suggested that we take a selfie shot making use of the golden light. We shuffled into our positions and on the count of three, took a selfie photo of us with the camera. Click, flash, then as the instant film popped out, it took me a few moments to  realise that it was different to the location that we were standing. To my surprise, it was actually an image of Gavan holding a sign saying ‘Will you marry me?’
I turned to him and there he was, down on one knee, with the ring.

My ring was designed at Janai Jewelry in Melbourne. It’s a lovely three stoned diamond ring, with a round brilliant centre stone and two pear-shaped side stones set in platinum.
Funny story about my ring actually, I was tricked into helping a close girlfriend with ring shopping, which I always thought would be for her as her partner had asked me discreetly to help him with the task. Little did I know that it was pre-arranged by my fiancé and that the whole ring shopping expedition was actually for myself!
Everyone including the Jeweller was in on it with my girlfriend reporting back to my fiancé as we both tried on a number of different styles of rings, including the exact ring that my fiancé would eventually propose with. Needless to say, when my ring was shown to us I fell in love with the unique design as soon as I saw it.

We wanted to keep the day quite relaxed and informal with lots of delicious food, wine and gelato. As we both love our food and our oysters, Panama Dining Room was the obvious choice. We opted for a canape style menu as the event was in the afternoon.
Panama were great to work with, and made the engagement planning process simple and stress free. Communication was open and clear, and they were able to accommodate all of our needs.
We chose the Panama Dining Room as we love the space and their amazing food, as well as being a place we’d visit regularly for a cheeky drink or two. We‘re also some of their biggest fans of their nightly oyster hour specials!
Centrally located, the room is very spacious and flooded with natural light from the high windows surrounding the space, providing panoramic views of  Fitzroy. Oh and who could forget the beautiful arched windows at Panama and exposed brick walls!

The boys enjoyed the centre pool table and open bar style whilst the girls mingled and chilled out together in the open space enjoying a glass of bubbly or two.
We were going for a modern and relaxed feel to the day, and settled on a theme incorporating white, peach and lilac throughout the flower arrangements after seeking inspiration from Instagram and Pinterest.

VENUE: We chose the Panama Dining Room as we loved the details in the space and love their food, I worked mainly with Luke, the manager and he and his colleagues were fantastic to work with.

CATERER: We simply adore gelato and it truly was a no-brainer to have Gelato Messina. We served one of our favourite flavours Coconut and Lychee & Mango Sorbet.  It worked a treat as a refreshing palate cleanser after the cake!

PHOTOGRAPHER: We chose to work with the amazing Nikki from Nikki McCrone photography and we loved every minute of it. I couldn’t have asked for a better photographer, her style echoed my style and the overall mood we wanted for the day. She was friendly and really helped us to relax on the day. We had a mix of formal shots and candid shots, but I must say I loved the candid shots she got of the day of our family and friends.

CAKE: A dear friend of mine was able to offer her expertise and together we created a two tiered white and dark chocolate cake frosted with vanilla buttercream, which was then adorned with some gorgeous florals and macarons from La Belle Miette.

ENTERTAINMENT: We curated an engagement playlist on Spotify and played that in the background. Songs were mostly acoustic and mellow, to go along with the overall mood of the day.

KATHY’S LOOK: My dress was a long sleeved mini dress from Manning Cartell.  It was the perfect engagement dress, I loved the Guipure lace teamed with a high neckline and embellished collar.

GAVAN’S LOOK: As the casual event was in the afternoon, Gavan wore a white poplin weave double cuffed shirt from T.M Lewin and pale slacks, teamed with tailored cognac leather shoes.
