ENGAGED! Tecia & Tom
SUNSHINE COAST, QLD
I absolutely LOVE seeing engagement shoots, as you can really see the love between a couple in the lead up to their wedding. Plus it’s a super cool way to get comfortable with your photographer!
Not only are these two totally and adorably in love, but knowing the bride to be’s mum Jacinta, who is a key artisan at the famous Gems & Jewels in Ballarat, I simply had to feature these two! Here’s our chat!
How long have you been together?
We met 5 years ago at work, started as great friends & our relationship developed from there.
When did you get engaged?
We got engaged on the 10th of July, 2015 in Airlie Beach on the first holiday we’d had just to ourselves since we met.
How did the proposal happen?
We had a great week together with island hopping, lots of great food, drink & relaxing by the pool. On our final night before flying back to reality on the Saturday, we went out to a restaurant that had been recommended to us by a tour guide. We had a funny dinner that turned out to be in a loud & quite old restaurant that wasn’t the scene we had in mind. After eating dinner rather quickly Tom encouraged that we walk home along the boardwalk to get some fresh air. As we were part way along the boardwalk, he got down on one knee to scratch some mozzie bites on his ankle (or so I thought) & he pulled out a love-heart shaped piece of coral that I had given him the day before when we were exploring Daydream Island. He proposed then & there, it was the last thing I expected to finish our holiday.
What kind of ring do you have?
It is a platinum set, 4-claw cushion cut diamond. Simple, elegant & timeless.
Was the ring designed, bought or chosen together?
The ring was designed by both of us including the wonderful team at Gems & Jewels Ballarat. I knew we were in perfect hands with them & when it arrived, we both couldn’t be happier!
What was it like having an engagement shoot?
Having an engagement shoot was a really fun day out. I chose our photographers based on their use of gorgeous natural light & capturing candid moments. We were a little nervous about what to expect, especially with the kissing scenes as we thought that would look really set up, however Trent & Jessie made us feel so at ease & it was like they weren’t even there. It shows in the pictures, they captured us perfectly.
Would you recommend other couples have an engagement session?
I really would & have already done so to some of my friends who are getting married. I’ve got great confidence in the photos on the wedding day now that we’ve got the first ‘meeting’ out of the way & had a heap of fun whilst doing it. I think I’d be a lot more unsure of what to expect on the day without having a trial run beforehand & the best part of all, we’ve got some gorgeous photos to add to our albums for many years to come!
